In Sanskrit, Yoga means ‘union’ or ‘connection.’ In a Spiritual Community focused on our Oneness, we are pleased to offer a variety of yoga classes at different times and days of the week. All yoga classes are offered on a love offering basis with a suggested love offering of $10 per class. Below are descriptions of each class, but be sure to check the calendar before coming your first week.

Gentle Yoga

Mondays at 10:00 a.m. with Donna Pennell

The Monday yoga class is truly a gentle yoga class — no one will be standing on their head here. What is stressed over and over again is that everyone moves at their own pace, and does what they can do. There is no competition. Many people that are in the class have some limitation or another, so the instructor works with everyone to find what works for them. She also incorporates balance, eye exercises and the Tibetan Five Rites of Rejuvenation into every class.

As our longest running yoga class at UCOH, the group has really bonded — it’s a very social, family-oriented group and they often go out for lunch afterwards.

Donna Pennell was a step aerobics instructor in Los Angeles for 14 years and also taught yoga and Pilates before moving to Austin.

Hatha Yoga

Fridays at 2:00 p.m. with Xin Xin

Hatha Yoga: Using bodily postures, breathing techniques, and meditation to concentrate on physical health and mental well-being. The postures work to make the spine supple and to promote circulation in all the organs, glands, and tissues by stretching and aligning the body, promoting balance and flexibility.

Instructor: Xin is from China, has been living in Austin for eight years. She is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance with a 200 RYT designation. One of her uniqueness is that she could teach yoga in both English and Chinese. So if you want to learn yoga, and Chinese the same time, come to join her for sure. She is also a writer. Currently, she is working on her book about Yoga practice and meditation. Her two other books on Amazon: “A Decade’s Retrospective” , and “The Golden Autumn”(金秋)both under her pen name: Shan Ling
