It is not always easy to have courage. An even greater challenge is to have the courage to trust God. Unity co-founder Myrtle Fillmore reminds us, “Try not to do too much, leave something for God to do.” This is a great reminder to leave room for God in the process of our healing.

We have to let go and TRUST God. We have to let go of the “doing” in our daily living, and allow ourselves to just BE. It takes great courage to get ourselves out of the way, which is really just getting our “ego” out of the way. Doing so allows us to TRUST God’s power flowing through us to illuminate the path to the healing we need.

When the flow of divine energy seems to have stopped, we have to go to our Truth toolboxes. Like when you call a plumber to get a clogged drain to flow freely, sometimes we need tools to get us back into the spiritual and creative flow of life. Our Truth toolboxes include spiritual strategies ranging from affirmations and denials to silent meditations and affirmative prayer. Additionally, creative expressions like painting, dancing, singing, or quilt-making, all of these and more, are tools we can use to help get God’s creative energy flowing in and through our lives again.

With God All Things Are Possible

In Matthew 19:26, Jesus teaches, “For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” With God, the “courage to heal” is possible for you and me in our lives, no matter our past experience. Our part is to get our egos, our personalities, our little selves out of the way, and to TRUST that God is ALWAYS at work for our greater good. Even when it may not look like it, we can find the courage to TRUST God, if we are willing.

In one of Myrtle Fillmore’s healing letters, “The Way to Health,” she reminded us of Paul’s powerful words: “Be ye transformed by the renewal of your mind.” In renewing the mind and coming into accord with Divine Mind, we become aware of mistakes we may have made, like judging from appearances, accepting illusions, working against Principle, and generally misusing God’s gifts as intended.

The mistakes and misuses disrupt the potential for harmony in our lives. Fortunately, by changing the causes, we also change the effects. When we keep our mind in tune with God-Mind, there isn’t room for negative thoughts to take up space in our consciousness. We can know constant harmony, order, success, and health. We can be anxiety- and injustice-free, experiencing lives filled with peace, health, and strength instead.

Affirming God’s Truth, and Only God’s Truth

When we experience illness, truly it is evidence that we have been letting go of our hold on God’s gifts. We have ceased to be in alignment with God in our thoughts, our words, our actions, and our living habits. We’ve ceased practicing the TRUTH! We get stuck in habitual thought patterns, listening to old tapes, if you will, which aren’t based in TRUTH!

When we truly seek that which is of God, we are expressing the good and the true in the activity of our thoughts. When we catch ourselves thinking adverse thoughts, we instinctively deny their power and quickly reaffirm the truth of God’s divine support in our lives. Denials and affirmation are powerful tools we may use to release and correct, erroneous thoughts and actions and to come back into alignment and balance with the principles of Divine Mind.

So the way to healing is to retrain our thoughts to focus on God’s Truth, rather than the illusions our ego promotes. When we do, our bodies operate harmoniously, the way they were created to function. The bigger part of healing is being willing to reevaluate our living habits to insure they conform to the TRUTH that aligns with God’s perfect ideal for our lives.

Asking for Help and Accepting Help Are Key to Healing

In the early part of His ministry, Jesus was healing in Capernaum, which metaphysically means “shelter or comfort” and refers to restoring the power of Being. The healing power that flowed through Jesus transformed discord into harmony. We do the same thing every time we realign our thoughts with Divine Mind.

As word of Jesus’ healing powers spread, those hopeful for healing came to Him. Mark 2:1-12 tells the story of the healing of the paralytic. Four friends lowered a crippled man through a hole in the roof and dropped him in front of Jesus, who was speaking, because it was too crowded to enter the front door. So great was the paralytic’s hope for healing that he allowed the four to help him, surrendering to embarrassment and humiliation.

Having the courage to ask for help and support is essential to our healing. Asking for help can be difficult, but we need to do it anyway. We also may resist accepting help, even when it is offered. However, refusing help limits the abilities of those who can help, and interrupts the flow.

The spiritual gift of willingness and our capacity for healing are powers that need to be exercised. When we do not allow others to exercise their gifts, it stifles the expression of their God Self. When we offer to help others, we show our love. When we allow others to help us, we give them the opportunity to express their love. For the four who assisted the paralytic through the roof, and the paralytic who was healed, their rooftop time was sacred to all involved, because spiritual gifts were shared among them.

Wherever Two or More Are Gathered

In order to heal, mentally, emotionally, and/or physically, we need connections, just like the paralytic. In Matthew 18:19-20 Jesus teaches, “Again, truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”

We need one another. When together we agree and go to God, God is there amongst us. Don’t be afraid to ask or accept help when it is offered. Be strong. Be there for those you care about. Allow others to share their spiritual gifts with you. Allow others the opportunity to model God’s Love in Action to you, and be willing to do the same for others. It takes great courage to ask for help, even greater courage to accept it.

We can heal. We can heal ourselves, our relationships, our bodies, our emotions, and our spirit. Miracles of healing await us when we release sabotaging thoughts and habits, ask for help, accept help, and TRUST God. When we go up on the rooftop, metaphysically speaking, we raise our consciousness, so we can “see” the activity of the Christ Presence working in our lives. Then we may “lower” ourselves back into our day-to-day living, more able to express the healing Christ Presence that we are intended to be.
